Actually, the heading should be “And The Winners Are.”
The Best of Show entry at the SCADDYs was for a 2-person team project. Joaquin Salim, MFA Spring 2011, and Mihai Draganescu, BFA Fall 2011, teamed up last May to complete a 3-day, intensive, self-produced project for “Sharpie Liquid Pencil.” The work by all winners of the silver, gold, and judges special awards was also very impressive. To my memory this was one of the better SCADDY Award Shows so far.
“The Draftfcb Award Show Grant”
Tom O’Keefe, EVP, Executive Creative Director North America, Draftfcb presented the $5,000 academic grant to the Best of Show winning students. The grant will be applied to attend the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity [a.k.a. Cannes Advertising Festival]. June in France is never hard to take, but to be young creatives attending this event and joining up with so many professionals, seeing work from around the world, and spending some time with Tom O’Keefe and his crew is an outstanding opportunity. Both Joaquin and Mihai were dazed beyond belief with Draftfcb’s support of our students and their generosity. They are both looking forward to a lifetime experience and the memories that will come from it.
Simple Enough: the creative art of reduction
Tom O’Keefe and members of Draftfcb, including Tammy Skuraton, VP-Creative Resource Manager, came to town for a three-day visit through the SCADDY Awards Show and grant presentation. They met students, visited a classroom, toured our campus—were absolutely knocked out by the new SCAD museum, and kicked off the visit with a talk at the Student Center. On Wednesday, January 25, Tom returned to our Savannah campus for another inspirational discussion with students and faculty, titled “Simple Enough.” Draftfcb is one of the world’s largest advertising agencies and handles such notable brands as Boeing, General Motors, Hewlett-Packard, Johnson & Johnson, Kraft, Motorola, Volkswagen, and so many more.
Thanks to all our friends at Daftfcb, especially Tom, Tammy, and their team that was with us.
